Dealing with Wedding nerves
Weddings are fun...or they certainly should be! They are a time to celebrate the unique love between you and your significant other with your friends and family.
Despite best intentions though, we too often see couples go overboard on the planning, and end up creating stress for themselves where there shouldn't be any. The entire process should be fun, so if you find yourself on edge and obsessing too much over the perfect way to seat your guests, or if the shade of blue on your invitations printed a little too dark...remember what really matters - your family, your friends, your love. Here are a few strategies to practice that will burn off those worries, leaving you more relaxed and ready to enjoy your wedding:
Exercise is one of the best ways to calm nerves. It produces endorphins and serotonin, helping you to remain clear-headed and relaxed. It doesn't have to be hard workout sessions either. Just 30 minutes of activity 3-4 times per week can help. Whether you like to jog, ride your bike, swim, play a sport for fun like tennis, basketball, or volleyball, lift weights, exercise in a gym, exercise outside...anything that gets you moving...do it!
Promotes deep breathing, stretching, and relaxation techniques...a perfect way to tune out any negative energy. If you belong to a gym, chances are they offer guided yoga classes. If not, just do a quick search to find a local yoga class near you.
P.S. Scenic Springs hosts a weekly Tuesday evening Yoga class! Call us for more information.
Outside that is! Fresh air and sunlight can do wonders for your mindset.
Bonus points: If you have a dog, take him or her for regular strolls down your street or in a nearby park. Not only will you get fresh air and exercise, but so will your pup.
No, really! It may sound like a silly suggestion, but it really works. According to the Mayo clinic, laughing can relieve stress and tension, improve your immune system, relieve pain, boost your mood, and increase your overall life satisfaction.
Watch a funny movie, check out a joke book from a local library, go see a stand-up comedian...whatever triggers those chuckles. Have you ever noticed how weight just seems to lift off your shoulders after a good laugh?
Nothing is perfect, but things can work out perfectly. If you expect everything to go exactly a certain way, then it's almost guaranteed that you will not be happy about something. If you can however keep an open mind and "go with the flow", you are most certainly going to have a better wedding than you could have ever imagined!
